There are just under three weeks to go for my very first Figure contest, and this is indeed a very exciting time for me . . . but not just for that reason.
Although it seems like yesterday, I remember 18 months ago going to the 2011 Fitness and Health Expo in Sydney and being excited at meeting and chatting with a woman who had competed in a show herself. I didn’t even ask what category she had competed in because at the time it would have meant nothing to me anyhow, I knew nothing about that world at all.
It’s amazing how much has changed since then.
Just six months after that, in October of 2011, I was lucky enough to be accepted into Team Bombshell. I had only just recently found out who they were and even though I was in pretty good shape at the time, I don’t think I was really seriously thinking about competing. I just figured they could help me develop a really great looking physique.
You can imagine how absolutely over the moon I was at the thought of being among such an illustrious and inspiring team of women and being able to connect with them. It was indeed a huge milestone for me. Since then I have not only transformed my body completely, but I have learned an incredible amount more about fitness as well, both from Team Bombshell and also from the huge amount of research that Fabian and I have been doing.
Now the one year anniversary of my joining Team Bombshell is here, and it marks another big milestone for me. That’s because I have decided to move on from Team Bombshell and take the next step on my journey. It was a difficult decision to come to because it has been such a wonderful experience to be on the team and I have thoroughly enjoyed the inspiration, support and camaraderie from the amazing Bombshells. They are all so awesome.
Nevertheless, I feel as though it’s time for me to move on to new things. It’s not that I think the Bombshell program is in any way bad or ineffective. After all, their results speak for themselves.
As someone who is deeply involved in fitness, I just feel that my journey isn’t just about getting into great shape but also about learning as much as I can. Bombshell has been great and at one time I felt as though I would be on the team forever – I think I even said that to Fabian once or twice. But I now see that in the grand scheme of things it has just been a stepping stone for me. I want to always keep moving up, and not stay in the same place.
So following my contest three weeks from now, I will either be joining up with one of two prominent trainers in the US that we have been communicating with, or Fabian and I will be implementing a program of our own. We’ll make the final decision which way to go when the time comes.
Again, I have nothing but good things to say about Team Bombshell and I have nothing but praise and respect for the trainers and the team. Athletes however sometimes feel the need to try other trainers whose approaches are different and whose philosophies are more in line with their own, for no other reason than it just feels right. After all, many roads can lead to the same destination.
For the past six weeks, my contest preparation has been a combination of Team Bombshell’s program and to a greater extent, Fabian’s. He has introduced changes into my training and nutrition that align more with our beliefs about what will work for me, and so far I’m happy with the way I’m progressing. We’re also learning a great deal in the process – experience certainly is the best teacher!
Fabian is a real numbers person so he’s measuring and tracking everything for me in detail, and that’s allowing us to see clearly what is and isn’t working, which gives us direction. He’s also quite a perfectionist so he’s never satisfied with his program and is constantly thinking and researching what can be improved. Even though this is our first contest ever, we still feel confident in our ability to take it on ourselves.
I will continue to work hard for the next three weeks, and Fabian will continue to stress over the program, ha ha. I have already decided which place we’ll be visiting for Sushi on the Saturday night after my contest. And I am very excited about my new direction and where it will take me!
