Here’s a handy Ideal Weight Calculator that you can use to quickly and easily work out approximately what a healthy body weight is for you. It uses two methods for estimating your ideal weight – Body Mass Index, or BMI, and Robinson’s Formula.
A healthy BMI for women is considered to be 18.5 to 24.9. This is used to work out an ideal weight range for you based upon your height which, as you’ll see, is actually quite broad.
Robinson’s Formula was developed in 1983 by J. D. Robinson. Although there are quite a number of similar formulas to estimate ideal body weight, Robinson’s Formula is considered to be the most accurate for women.
When you use this calculator you’ll be given an ideal weight range based on a healthy BMI range, and also an ideal weight estimate based on Robinson’s Formula.
Bear in mind that the results from this Ideal Weight Calculator are only rough estimates. BMI, for example, is most useful as a statistical tool.
Nevertheless, the results are also reasonable first guesses as to how overweight you might be. Unless you have reason to believe that your muscle or bone mass is far from what the average is, they should be quite OK for this.
Of course the most reliable and meaningful way to assess and monitor your body’s condition is through your Body Fat Percentage. This is something we recommend to all women who are in the process of losing weight.
